The five-part comic will be completed in the weeks running up to the game's release. You can access it via the game's homepage on the Steam app. It's a black and white comic, and tells the back story of some of the fighting factions in the game. The app is updated automatically as new episodes come out.

The sequel to Hotline Miami is looking like a great update of the original. But the game's strange 80s, blurry and violent atmosphere, which made players question the violence the game asked of them

One of the attractions of the original Hotline Miami was in its blurry, unclear storyline. The game made you question violence, while asking you to behave in extremely violent ways. You were never quite sure what was going on, and for a game to have such an art-house feel made it fresh and unusual.

For fans only

However, the developers and publisher Devolver Digital have embraced the game's popularity, even apparently licensing t-shirts and other merchandising. Even if fans want it, it's strange to encourage people to glorify the violent lead character of a game that seemed to question such glorification.

Similarly, this comic, while adding back story to Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, dilutes its mystery. This is a great shame.

Practically speaking, it would be better if the Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number Comic could be read away from Steam, as an Android or iOS app, perhaps. It would also be improved if you could turn pages using cursor keys, instead of clicking through with your mouse.

More is less

If you want to know more about Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number's back story, that's what this comic gives you. But this reviewer feels that the more you know about the game, the less inviting it seems.
